No water at the house? Check these three things first
Turning on the faucet and getting nothing is scary, especially on a weekend. Before you assume the pump is dead, check these three things. They solve more no-water calls than you'd think.
1. The breaker
Find the breaker marked "well" or "pump" in your panel. If it's tripped, switch it fully off, then back on. If it trips again right away, leave it off and call. That points to a wiring or pump problem.
2. The pressure switch
The pressure switch is the small gray box near your pressure tank. Look at the gauge next to it. If it reads near zero and the pump isn't running, the switch contacts may be stuck or burned. Don't open the switch cover yourself. It carries 240 volts.
3. A storm or a freeze
Lightning often takes out pumps and control boxes. A hard freeze can split pipes in the well house. If either just happened, mention it when you call. It helps us bring the right parts.
